One of the best things about owning a beach home in Crystal Beach is that you can get here on a Friday after work. No flights, no rental car and no eight-hour drive to the Florida coast. Here is how long it takes to reach the Beach Bungalows at Camp Margaritaville Resort Crystal Beach from across Texas.

Approximate drive times to Crystal Beach

From Approximate drive
Houston About 1.5 hours
Clear Lake and Friendswood About 1 to 1.5 hours
Beaumont About 1 to 1.25 hours
The Woodlands About 2 to 2.5 hours
Austin About 4 to 4.5 hours
San Antonio About 4 to 4.5 hours
Dallas-Fort Worth About 5 to 5.5 hours

Drive times are approximate and vary with traffic, weather and ferry lines.

Two ways to get here

Through Galveston and the free ferry. Take I-45 south to Galveston, follow Broadway to Ferry Road and ride the free Galveston-Bolivar Ferry. The crossing takes about 20 minutes and dolphins are a common sight, but lines can run long on summer and holiday weekends.

Through Winnie, no ferry. Take I-10 east to Winnie (exit 828), then Highway 124 south to Highway 87 and head west to Crystal Beach. This is the direct route from Beaumont and East Texas and a good way to skip ferry lines from Houston.

A drive-to beach home versus a fly-to beach home

A Houston family can leave after work on Friday and be on their deck by sunset. Compare that with a beach home on the Florida Gulf Coast, which is roughly an eight-hour drive from Houston or a flight plus a rental car. More weekends here means more use of the home you bought.
